And this year a completely new experience snuggling by the fire drinking hot chocolate while watching a Christmas movie

Christmas Work Has Begun

The Christmas work around the city has begun, huge chandeliers, flying doves, angels and large Christmas trees are loaded onto old trucks and transported around the city to be turned into Christmas lights. With Christmas fast approaching its hard to believe that it will be finished before the celebrations begin.

We have decided to stay in Georgia for Christmas this year. I think it will give us another opportunity to get to know more about the Georgian culture and its people.

The vast majority of the population is Orthodox Christian. Christmas is one of the most important holidays of the year. In the Orthodox world, the old Julian calendar is still used, meaning that Christmas falls on January the 7th. Leading up to the 7th people often fast for 40 days, no meat, dairy or eggs and of course no alcohol, which is the most difficult part for most of the male population in Georgia. On the 7th after attending a church service a supra or feast begins.
