It is true what they say about Disney

While we were in the US we definitely  had to make the trip to Disney. I like to know about the places we are visiting, the ins and outs, the good and the bad. There are hundreds of blogs and websites dedicated to Disney so I started researching. Most of them had the same advice for when we were visiting. Don't go in the heat of the summer holidays. Great, what a good start. We figured the heat wouldn't affect us to much, as we had been through a Georgian summer, but we didn't count on the humidity of Orlando.
Reading all the blogs I do admit, I thought 'these Americans must be over reacting'. Get there at opening, pack hats, glasses, extra this and that, take a photo of where your car is parked, label your kids, be there at this time for this show and that time for this meal.
But I realise now that this Disney obsessed nation do know all the tricks to surviving Disney and what they say is true. Of course my other half thought I was crazy when I suggested all of this prior to our first day. Especially the advice about getting there at rope drop. But after missing out on rides and having to hang out in hot, long lines he was convinced.

My simple tips.
It is hot and crowded in August

You do need to get there for rope drop

Do go back to hotel mid day and spend time resting and at the pool, or there will be many meltdowns.

Have a plan - study the park maps, get touring plans so you can ride the best rides without the lines, agree on what rides and shows you all want to visit before getting there.

Use fast passes.

Take snacks and frozen water.

Wear something cool and comfortable and that goes for the kids as well.

Get the kids excited about collector pennies, it saves you a lot of money on souvenirs.

Stay somewhere that has a courtesy bus.

Do get a proper autograph book. You may think your 10 year old doesn't want to meet the characters, but she really does.

Do buy a cheap spray bottle from the 2 dollar shop as you will not want to spend 20 dollars at the park.

Buy cheap disposable ponchos for the water rides. Yes you do get wet.

Read about or watch the rides on u tube before getting on and scaring yourself and your child half to death.

Take time out to rest in a shady spot while eating Mickey ice creams and people watching. You will be surprised at how many family meltdowns you will see.

We had a great time at all 4 theme parks and 2 water parks. We were completely shattered and yes there were a few grumpy moments from all of us. There were a couple of low lights but there were lots and lots of highlights. Would we go back again, probably not.
