Amazing sunset, just over this mountain is Russia. Im sure you could probably drive.
What an experience. Most families in Tbilisi head to the mountains during the summer to escape the heat, we were invited to a mountain village for the weekend. One of the highest villages in the area, only a few people live there in the winter as you cant get to it because of snow. Luckily we didn't ask many questions about our mountain jaunt before we left or we would have missed out on seeing some amazing scenery and local hospitality. Let's just say I won't be taking that drive again. The drive took 6 hours with an hour break on a mountain pass, we had to wait for the grader to clear the road. The girls took it all their stride, we parents tried not to look over the sides of the roads (tracks really) and imagine the worst. I have never been so scared. We arrived at the guesthouse safe and sound unpacked and much to Lily's delight we had a real loo, only 1 of 3 working ones in the whole village. Over the weekend we were invited to a supra (feast) which goes on for hours, ate lots of local food, including dried bear meat(only Milton tried this) and cha cha (grape moonshine). It was an amazing experience for the girls, they got to ride the local horses, make bread each day and realized that not all holidays are motels and restaurants.
